How Much Can A Human Heart Hold?

“Small is the number of them that see with their own eyes and feel with their own hearts.”
~ Albert Einstein

When Barney Clark, the recipient of the world's first artificial heart, was being prepped and made ready for surgery ~ surgeons sat patiently with his wife, going over all of the possible risks and complications of this groundbreaking new procedure.

And when they finished, they paused to ask her if she had any questions of them. She had only just one, "Yes, will he still love me?"

You see, in all of the chaos and flurry of this most newsworthy event ~ love, was what mattered most of all.

Oh sure, some will argue the heart is merely a fluttering pump - intent on keeping this human form alive.

But, ask any dreamer what they might think, and they will tell you such things as...

"the heart has reasons, which reason knows not..."

Or, "when the heart speaks, the mind finds it indecent to object.”

And, if you ask me what I might think, I'll say, "My dears, always and forever follow your heart. Because, the heart knows the way, even when hope seems lost."

Or, perhaps in that moment, I might also add, "An open heart...sees love everywhere."

In this most beautiful video, renowned heart surgeon Dr. Kathy E. Magliato shared the true limitlessness of the human heart.

And, it's absolutely incredible.

This piece originally aired on the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN, check local listings) as part of a SoulPancake special on love.
