Let’s Hear it for the Unsung Heroes. (Elephant 1/16)

“Heaven goes by favor. If it went by merit, you would stay out and your dog would go in.” ~ Mark Twain

“Let’s hear it for the unsung heroes,
The ones that are sometimes missed.
The ones who ask not a thing in return,
When the hardship of war finally hits.
Let’s hear it for the unsung heroes,
The ones who stay fast by our side.
The ones whose heart will always stay strong,
When the strength of the spirit subsides.”
~ Tara Lemieux

They spend their days protecting our troops—our sons and daughters of war. Working tirelessly, and always in harms way—they put their paws first and before any soldiers boot.

They keep our troops safe from ambush, sniffing out hidden caches of ammunition or camouflaged encampments.

And they ask nothing in return, save for the loving pat of their military handlers.

These are the dogs of war. And now, through an act of Congress—these unseen heroes will finally be recognized, as the first National monument to pay tribute to these working dogs of war will be unveiled. The U.S. Working Dog Teams National Monument will pay honor to every single dog that has ever served in combat since World War II.

I think it’s about time we celebrate. Because, these heroes need our support and love, too.
